Need information on a NH TR-70 combine with ford diesel engine. Were they any good and reliable. Seems to have a lot of belts for a rotary machine. Found a retiring farmer who has a very clean one for sale with a 4 rw corn head and 21" cutterbar? What would be a good price for one with 2800 hours, barn kept its entire life. Thanks again for your help. Tim in East Texas

We own a New Holland TR-70 with that awesome Ford engine in it. That Ford engine hardly uses any fuel. It's awesome/excellent on saving fuel & very reliable. Yea, it's a very strong and hard working diesel.

One big tip though, (no big deal at all- but please remember) the fuel injection pump is lubricated with it's own oil (the same oil that you put in the engine itself), so always make sure you change/check it's oil when changing/checking the combine's eng oil. Make sure you refer to the engine's service manual when draining & filling the injection pump with oil.

That Ford engine is actually a Lehman engine. I believe it's a 363ci, Lehman model: (what ever the horsepower numbers are) so parts will always be cheap and available- no matter if you go to New Holland to get parts for the engine or a Lehman engine parts supplier.

I guarantee you, that it's Ford/Lehman engine will work as hard for you- as it does for me.

I've had one with the Ford engine and two with the 3208 Cat. The Ford engine was good but the Cat had more power and consequently used more fuel. The TR-70 in my opinion is a great machine for the price. Around southeast Iowa you can pick up a TR-70 and family for $1500 - $4500. A lot of machine for that kind of money.
