thats way to high for a 510 in my area. In fact local fellow has a nice runnig unit and has even tried its free for the hauling. Last time Iwas by its still there. This machine was being used he just quit.

Massey 510 weighs a little over 12,000#'s, according to my book. Scrap value is 85$/ton unprepared,in central Illinois, so $500 is reasonable price. With the high price of iron, the junkman is my toughest competition for old equipment. It sure is nice when an owner will sell for less to see the machine saved, but I expect to pay scrap price at least for whatever I save. If it's not worth scrap price as a collectible, it truly is junk. I just brought a Cat #12 roadgrader home-engines stuck-and paid scrap price. Had to think twice about that one, though, as it weighed over 11 tons.

Some host for a group of Massey collectors, huh? I for one, really am sick and tired of hearing about combines or even some tractors and other machines basically being held "hostage" for ransom--or else.

I like to help place such machines in good homes, but don't like hearing all this stuff about how it's got to sell for this $$$ or that $$$ and if it's not paid within 1 week, 1 month, or whatever, then it's going to be destroyed.

I don't like calling one's bluff, either, becuae it's usually not a bluff.

No, the 510 is NOT worth $800! At best, $300 scrap value. If he can't take THAT, then just let him spend another $70 or so in gas, cut it up, and see if he even got $300 for it, AFTER his labor as well as expense!

That said, go offer $300 for that 510 and try your best to bring it home safely!

Nuts, you read that one wrong. The host is trying to save it.

Probably way less than 1% of all combines built will ever be saved simply because they are hard to haul and take way too much shed room.I'm out of room now and it costs a small fortune to build a shed.

I wish that they could all be saved but they cant. Its costing me way too much to haul them.If I lived in western Kansas I would have one huge collection.
