Here we are taking a little rest stop in the Flinthills of Kansas. On the trailer is a running model S MM combine that we hauled home from just west of Wichita,KS.

I would like to thank Curtis for selling me this nice combine and for helping us get in getting it loaded.Believe me there is no harder combine to load and to haul than an S MM.It was quite a job to get it all torn down.

Great pictures, I'm surprised the drive wheels fit on the trailer, they must be the same width as my Unis are.

John, the drive wheels didnt fit.You cant see them but there are two 10 ft long 2" by 12" oak planks cross ways under the drive wheels. We had to plank it the entire way on the trailer.I dont know why MM built those combines so wide.Even with the wheels dished in,only about 3" of each tire fits on a 102" wide trailer.

In case anyone ever buys an S MM heres what has to be done to haul one.

1 Unloading auger has to be taken off.

2 Clean grain elevator has to be taken off and lowered to trailer floor to be under 13'6".

3 Operators ladder has to be removed and drive wheels have to be taken off and reversed. You need at least two 10 ft long heavy planks with you to put to safely load it and haul it.

4 Sickle has to be pulled.

5 Reel has to be pulled and two bats taken off to haul it without damaging it.The reel on this combine is like new.

6 The entire right side of the header has to be removed to narrow it down.Thats easier than trying to pull the entire header.

We have about half of another S MM on the trailer.A nice one was junked in the area where I got this one and the owner saved alot of it.Curtis let all this go with the combine.I also have a parts S MM combine so should be set.

Great pictures, need to look on here more often. Never seen a self propel mm combine like that, all the ones that use to be parked in tree groves around here were pull type G-4s ? i think thats what they were, iron guys usually buy them at estate sales probably only 2 left in the county, use to be a few dozen sitting along fence lines. I ever get down to kansas i got to drive down that road your on, looks like they are greener than last year. The guy with the JD's must be single because when you are married you never put all your tractors in one area, they must be scattered around, hid behind barns, etc., so she never knows how many you really have, take care.

Moline-guy,when you get down to Kansas holler at me and I'll tell you where that road is.Its wide, theres no traffic, and no DOT on it.Central and eastern Kansas have had tons of moisture this year.

Another view of the S MM and the Flinthills. In 2004 I drove a G-1000 Vista MM home from Kansas. In 2006 I drove a 6030 JD home from Kansas. We stopped at this very spot and took pictures of them.

Pic-A Row Of Big John Deere Tractors in reply to 1206SWMO, 06-08-2007 20:15:17

On the way home we passed a farm that had a row of 5010-5020-6030 JD tractors lining the drive way.

You never know what you will find in Kansas.

Russ, that picture proves that I take the back roads of Kansas.I think a neighbors 6030 JD that was in pieces may have ended up there a few years ago.He said it went north of Wichita and it wasnt to the guy that has a website.
