Here is my 428 Cockshutt combine on the trailer safely home in the yard..We went 400 miles out to western Kansas on Friday and 400 miles back home on Saturday. We averaged 9 mpg so it was a rather expensive trip with diesel near $3.00 per gallon.

The 428 had a 15 ft head so we loaded the combine on the trailer first and then took the header off and turned it end ways to narrow the load down.It sure got peoples attention going down the road. This combine is in real good condition and could easily be put in the field with very little work.

I sure feel sorry for the people in central Kansas.A freeze got their wheat and then bad storms last weekend caused much damage and flooding. Many crops were washed away and drowned out, roads and bridges were washed out, power poles and buildings were down-etc.Miles of power line were taken down in the Claflin,KS area. The flood damage was real bad in the Lyons and Emporia,KS area.Of course Greensburg had the terrible tornado. We stayed away from there as Hiway 54 is still closed.

It was pretty easy to pull the header..On the right side there are two small bolts on the drive shaft cover,a snap ring behind it lets the pitman arm off,and two chains. Then there are two big bolts on the bearing pillow block.

On the left side there are two big bolts on the bearing pillow block.

Underneath there are two pins that the lift cylinders and lift arms go thru.It should take less than 1 hour to pull it.

Is it in running condition? If not, how did you get it up on the trailer?

It wasnt running but it wouldnt take much as it was running 5 years ago.It was driven 15 miles home from a sale back then.

I have an 8000 lb electric winch on the front of the trailer that made short work of loading it.The header had been left up too.
