Who makes the best combines? To me even as a farmer they do about the same quality job. I am also planning to buy a combine that has less than 1000 threshing hours or new to use on 450 acres of corn 350 of soybeans and 200 of wheat. I have a 1980's 7720 titan 2 with PRWD and might be interested in another JD but dont know wheter STS really stands for STRATEGIC TECHNOLEDGY STOLEN or SINGLE TINE SEPERATION if you catch my drift. But color doesnt matter as long as its reliable and does a good job.
Thanks AJZ all information is appreciated.

We are pretty good at suggesting old combines - hindsight is 20-20, and we can let you know what works & what didn't.

However, no one really knows what the new crop of combines will do. So, it's your call.

Me, I would not buy a new model of something. There are often a lot of bugs to work out the first year or two. For example Gleaner & the N series when it was new - there were 100 or so modifications they made to them before they got it right.... Same with any new model.

Otherwise, pick a dealer you like, a design you like, something you can afford, and go with it. Do you have a good header or 2? Maybe then you are best to stick with Deere. Do you have a better dealer near you of another color? And so on.

As I said in another message to you, hard to make the $$$ come out on a new machine for you I would think.

Paul i have also long before come to the conclusion that you cant pay for a 200000 dollar machine off of 1000 acre. This is why all of my equipment is used. To me if it is a high quality piece of machinery to start it will be the same in the end. At least if it is taken care of. for example the combine i am looking for will be replacing a GLEANER N5 it was a piece of heaven when i got it but it has a high maintenance engine and is plain getting wore out. Same with tractors i have a late Steiger that is still green. a john deere 4855. and a snall massey ferguson 261. all of which have proven their name and proven to me that color DOESNT matter. Although just by doing a few rounds with my neigbors Massey XP rotary i know i want one. BUT NOT NEW i am willing to pay 100 to 110 thousand for the combines and heads which isnt hard around here.

Are not my bucks, but if I had to buy a combine i would chose a Claas, or a New-Holland, perhaps a JD
