Already sent these pictures, but today I got to go and look closer. There are 10 55's, 2 47's,2 48's,1 50,1 51, 2 52's, 1 95 round back it is 13927, 2 105 round back and one has a V-8. What's the lowest serial # 105 have you seen this one is #706 I guess it's a 61 model.I don't have a serial number list for 95's and 105's

430WLPG, are either of the two 1947 Model 55's in decent or restorable shape? Due to the fact that was their very first year, I am interested in securing one or even both for my new organization.

Hey, I was thinking about those 105's. What kind of engine is that V-8? The original JD engine on the roundback 105's was a 248 gas that ran at 3000 rpm fast idle. They have a gear reduction unit on pulley to get the pulley speed right for the machine. Would imagine the life on those things wasn't so great. Wonder why they didn't use the 4010 engine right away? Later, Brad

The engine was a chysler 383-413. Seems the 4010 would have been a good choice, may have thought it would be too heavy, I don't know. Mike

I am wondering if that 105 is the same one that was in a farm magazine back in the 60's? There was a picture of a John Deere 105 that a Farmer had put a Chrysler engine in. It looked factory and he stated that it increased capacity roughly 50%. The 105 is severly horsepower limited. Internal capacity of a 105 would easily support 200 to 250 horsepower pushing a 6/30 or 8/30 cornhead.

Hi 430, I'm looking at a serial # chart. Both the 95 and the 105 would be 1961 models. The 105 came out in 1961, starting with serial # 501. That is definitely an early one. I've been trying to find a decent 105 HiLo-roundback for my collection.

If you buy some of these or talk to the owner, I would be interested in a few parts. I would be especially interested in a few pieces from the very earliest 55's. I've got a 1948 model in pretty decent shape.

One thing I'm looking for is the unloading auger clutch. The very early models had a clutch below the radiator, drive off the fan side of the engine; this engaged the unloading auger. After about 2 years or so JD switched to the belt drive which simply tightened up the belt to engage. I could also use a set of rasp bars and other stuff such as clean grain elevator; etc. The rasp bars on the earliest models were different than the ones made in 1950 or later.

Happy hunting. If you get a chance to make connection or want to talk give me a holler on email.

Thanks, Brad

Yes, that's right those are year models of model 55's and there was one without a tag, another I couldn't get over where the tag should have been for fallen trees.

Just curious, who made the models 47,48,50,51 or 52. I know the Deere models but not these.

Those are the years of each respective model. He needs to type or write correctly. Numbers like that need to be more specific and defined by commas or hyphenation. For example, one should say, 2-95"s or 2-1960, 95"s. Grammatical correctness will sure make it easier to understand any jumble of number sets posted.

I think what he means is that there are qty 10 model 55, 2 of which are year 1947, 2 are year 1948, 1 is year 1950, 1 year 1951 and 2 are year 1952. That makes 8, so maybe the model year of the other two isn"t known.
