What can you guys tell me about a Case 1010 combine. I may be going to an auction that has one on it with a 20" dummy header.

The 1010 with the Industrial Chrysler 318 V8 couldn"t be beat. Case didn"t offer it in the earlier 1010s. Case used that engine in the big 1660/1665 right up to the bitter end, so you know how good it must have run the smaller 1010. There were also some power steering changes in the 1010s as the later models were hydrostatic power steering. On another note, a "dummy" head on newer machines today have no sickle drive or sickle guards or sections. Just an 11 or 13" platform to mount a windrow pickup attachment onto instead of carrying around a 30" header. Back in the day, if all you ever did was swath your grain and pick it up later with your 1010, you would have bought the cheaper 12" "dummy" head for this application. If you wanted the option of straight cutting your grain, you would have bought a complete 16 or 18" straight head and you had to remove the reel to add the pickup attachment over the sickle if you decided to swath. The bigger head still gave you the capacity for straight cutting, but you didn"t have to buy two heads if you decided to swath.

The 1010 Case was built from about 1963-65.They had a 12-14-16-18 ft header.They have a 298 Hercules 6 cyl engine.They weigh around 10,000 lbs.

Around here a dummy header is usually a smaller one with no reel and a windrow pickup attachment.

I really doubt that there are very many 1010 Cases still in existence. It was too big for our area.

I know of five or six here in MT and one in Kansas. The one in Kansas is our old machine.

Good machine; my dad and I had one that was formerly a custom machine and after I did some work on it, I cut a lot of wheat with it. They had could eb purchased with either a Chrysler or Herclues gas engines or Case diesels.

Tom, My 1010 Case sales literature form A-87463A shows the optional engines as the 284 Case in LP and the 301 Case in a diesel.

I guess the 298 Hercules is the same engine that a 570 Cockshutt gas tractor would have. They sure do sound good.
