At the K&O Steam and Gas Engine club meeting last night they voted to feature Combines and Harvesting Eq. at the 2011 show. The feature combine will be a John Deere 40 given to the club by the Walter Smith family in his memory. Walter was one of the good guys. He never said much but was always willing to help. I have read this forum for some time and decided it was time for the K&O club to do something different. It was a one-man battle but I think it will be worth the effort. I realize 2011 is a long way off, but mark your calendars and plan to attend the 3rd weekend of August. Bring a combine if possible. I have 14 combines lined up from the 40's to the 60's.

I have been to that show a few times from 1986 to 1992. I clearly remember just one combine--a very small PT made by IHC. I don't believe it was even there, the last time I went to the show, but whoever had it, always had it with a Farmall tractor, too.

I want to say it was maybe a 32-R or 42-R. If you can, ask the board to look for whomever used to display the machine, as no name tag was ever on it.

You didn't need to bring up that subject. One of our lifetime members owned that little jewel. When he passed on his wife sold it back to the original owners grandson for what was paid for it. He was asking $2500.00 for it years ago, it has been setting outside rotting down every sense. You wouldn't happen to have a shed out back where I could drop something off in the middle of the night and store it would you?

On to a better subject. 1206SWMO. Thanks for the offer. So far I have the following combines lined up.

Minneapolis Moline Uni-Harvestor with - Combine, 2 row corn picker, sheller, 1 row forage cutter, inline baler (not a harvesting item but close).
1965 John Deere 55. 1969 John Deere 105. 1963 John Deere 55 no cab. John Deere 45 with 2 row corn head. These 4 machines are very nice. 7ft. Massey Clipper fully restored. Pull Gleaner, very nice, one family owned. Minneapolis Threshing Machine, I have an original poster for a demonstration day for this thresher. 5 ft. Allis Chalmers All Crop, has cut wheat every year. Oliver 40 with cab. Oliver 431. 1969 G Gleaner Diesel. 1970 G Gleaner Gas. 1952 A Gleaner. 2 Minneapolis Moline Pull Corn Pickers.

Anything to do with bringing in the crop will be featured. I have started on this early in an effort to get everyone thinking about it. I have finally gotten a few K&O members interested in collecting implements so we can have a plow day. It took 3 or 4 years to get even a few of them interested. We plow next to the highway and always get a lot of people stopping by just to see what is going on. Most of them have never seen a plow. We will be cutting wheat on this field with the Oliver 40 this year so I hope it will get a few more spectators.

Hmmmm.....Never really understood just what happened to that little machine. Too bad someone thinks it must be gold-plated beneath the paint! LOL! Maybe someday, it can go back to a good home.

Anyway, I'm so glad you have the Ollie 40. It was the last of the TRUE, "purebred" Oliver combines made just prior to the White Motor Co. merger and all the "crossbreeding" with Cockshutt and Minneapolis-Moline. Actually, it was that White/Cockshutt "gene" that proved so dominant, huh? From then on, all Olllies, Minnies and Cockshutts were basically, "mutts."

Well, not sure where my mind is tonight.

The K&O Show is in Winfield Kansas. 2006 was our 25th show. We had over 400 tractors on display. Not sure why but 5 combines were brought for the show. I took my Oliver 431.
