How would I figure out what a combine gets for mpg. I"m thinking about driving home a MM 4296 this spring assuming that I can get it to run (unsure if stuck). How would I figure out how much fuel I would need to go 230-250 miles. It has a 318 chrysler and a cornhead attached. I would probably change the head to the grain platform if it would make much difference in mileage.

When we drove our "G" Gleaners home we got about 4 MPG. 318 Chysler should be about the same power range.

It should burn about half as much as it would under a full load.I'm guessing about 3-4 mpg if theres not alot of steep hills.Going back to the grain head would lighten it about 1500 lbs.

Those diesel tractors I drove home got close to 5 mpg.The 6030 JD did better than the G-1000 MM.
