Dear Board,
I have always been interested in Super 92 Combines. They look so streamlined and ahead of their time. What were their strengths and weaknesses? Were they as good as they looked? How hard would it be to find one in good condition? How would they compare capacity wise to a J.D. squareback 95 which I own? Any information would be appreciated.

They were a pretty good old combine from what I've heard. Some would say that the location of the engine is a big weakness. Some didnt like the flathead Chrysler 6 but I'm a big fan of them.

I'd say that there are quite a few nice ones left out in western Kansas.A 95 JD would be more combine than a Super 92.

I was at a farm sale near Girard,KS in Aug 1978 and watched a perfect Super 92 MH sell for only $45.It had cut wheat earlier that year.Only had to custom cut 3 acres of wheat back then to pay for it.

Its a PITA to even check the oil on those engines due to their location. I did hear removal is pretty easy though. Just needed a third arm growing out your chest if you had to work on something on the left side of the seperator between the ops platform and grain tank.

Hi 1206. We have one more thing in common. I too love the old flat head Mopars. I used to drive them. I learned my machanic work on them, overhauled three of them before I was 21. I was born May 1943. Have you always lived in MO?. I was made across the state from you, in an apartment near the front gate of Fort Leanard Wood. My mother was born east of Oak Hill MO., it is 6 miles north of Cuba. Sorry to hear about your mother. If I had an adress I would send you a card. My Greatgrandpa Rector was almost 98 when he passed on in 56. He lived near OAK HILL MO. At 92 he was still dancing a jig. He was a little Irishman. Charley.

Hi Charlie, I have always lived in SWMO since I was born in 1949.No need to send a card.Your comments on here are appreciated.

I used to tractor pull with a 1951 Wards ER farm tractor with fluid drive and a 250 Chrysler flat head 6.This was a factory built tractor. It had a 265 crank and it was bored .125 over with Jahns 10-1 pistons. It had a Isky cam and a factory dual carb and dual exhaust set up.We used to crank it 6000 rpms and it was a tough 4500-5500 lb class pulling tractor in its day.We had alot of fun with it.It dynoed 120 pto hp at stock rpms.

Russel Miner at Pleasant Plains,ILL built this tractor and in 1969 won the 5000 lb class at the prestigious M&W Gear CO pull at LaPlata,MO.He out pulled 40 other tractors.I've put a link to his website and it shows him and his wife with their tractor and huge trophy from 1969.Its called Night Mare.

I bought Night Mare from Russel in 1970 and pulled it for 13 years before trading it back to him in 1983.He wanted it to pull against his son in laws UB MM.Today he and his daughter are still pulling it at the classic pulls.

Those old flat head Chrysler 6's are one sweet sounding engine especially when you turn some rpms..

Heres the link to Russsels website about Wards tractors.Be sure and hit all the pages to see Night Mare.
