While looking at old combines yesterday I was given a lead on a Versatile 5000 combine. Its the only Versatile combine ever brought in to this area from what I hear.We used to have a Versatile dealer in the 1960's-70's in the Golden City,MO area and I guess he had it shipped in here.

Pictures-info would be appreciated.Thanks.

The 5000 was a self propelled machine built by Versatile Mfg. in Winnipeg, Manitoba in the early 70's. I owned one at one time although I bought it mainly to make a self propelled sprayer which I still use. It used a totally hydrostatic ground drive (no transmission)using Sundstrand hydros powered by a 360 Ford Industrial. I remember that it used Gleaner cylinder bars. We only used it briefly and it did a good job but was hard on fuel and the exhaust manifolds always cracked.

I'm trying to recall what a "5000" would be.

I can remember the "2000" series pulltype "transaxial" machines.

WHAT was a "5000"?
