Ah, just sit real quiet and you can hear them tell their stories of wheat harvests gone by. Thanks for all of your pics 1206SWMO.

According to an official Kansas highway map, Englewood has a population of 104. I suppose there are a lot of those size towns on those western plains.

I just love these little Kansas towns. You can always find old stuff in them.I'd love to turn back the hands of time 50 years and see what implement dealers they had in them back then.

Back in the 1960's the MM dealer at Minneola,KS used to mail us lists of what he had for sale.I still have one somewhere.I thought about that the other day when I went thru there.I drove around town trying to find the old dealership but no signs of it.

My Dad grew up in the little town of Falun,KS and they had a huge IH dealer there until the mid 1980's.When back for visits we always went by there to check out the inventory.I can remember the new 560's like it was yesterday. When they closed and moved to Salina,KS to be a JD dealer the town died.

I took the above picture in the small town of Moline,KS in October. The IH dealer has been gone for years but the IH sign still hangs proudly.

I'm getting to know my Kansas map pretty well. But the index doesn't list Falun. Is it close to Salina since you mentioned that? Our son and wife lived in Manhattan for about 5 years so I'm somewhat familiar with NE Kansas. You amaze me with what appears to be endless energy, like the Energizer bunny. I bet you would be interesting to visit with in person. I too, would like to take a peak again at the 50-year-ago times. Small towns are what I like to see when we travel. Usually try to stay off the interstate highways just so I can reminesce (sp?). That IH sign in Moline is worth its weight in gold! I'm getting the itch to get a digital camera.

Totally off topic, but I'm learning to play fiddle in retirement and I know Missouri is known as a hotbed of fiddlers. Do you by chance know any or maybe you are one?

Falun is a liitle town SW of Salina,KS or NW Of Lindsborg,KS which is Swede town USA.My Mom grew up right SE of Lindsborg.

Not to change the subject but check out this beautiful old limestone house east of Cottonwood Falls,KS.I sneak old combines out of Kansas using the road by this house.I'll be using it alot in 2007.Theres lots of old combines in this area.

A digital camera is sure fun to have.

An ex neighbor is a professional fiddler and played with Judy Lynn.My late FIL and BIL were both great fiddle players.

People say that I'm an interesting person to visit.I think I may have been born 30 years too late!LOL

Falun is on my Kansas map but not listed in the index. That is a beautiful old house. Looks like it could hold the whole threshing crew.
In 1999, I attended the SD Old Time Fiddlers Contest and Jamboree. There was a Gary Johnson(or Johnston) from Nevada, MO on the program. Would he be one of those fiddlers you mentioned? I"m assuming you are somewhere in that vicinity. We have friends in Springfield. Sometime when we go to visit them it would be fun to stop and see your combines if you weren"t too busy.

HEy 55-50 ever heard of the Smithvill TN. jamboree they do alot of fiddling and dancing and everything in the old city square. I've still got a house in that town. Used to be just a little town in the sticks till they punched the 4 lane through so that all of Nashville can visit us.
