Here is an old 45 JD at Austin Salvage with bomber tires on it.

Back in the 1950's-mid 60's lots around here ran bomber tires in the muddy years to try and float over the mud.It really didnt work that good as if you went down a few inches you were stuck.

Hey Machinery at Baldwin,KS made a fortune in this area selling bomber tires and rims.

a tire with no tread isnt to good in the mud. Some freinds put rice paddy tires on there combine, they said it still sank in but kept on going.

Michael, Needless to say the bomber tires didnt work very good with no tread.I've seen people use chains on them too or put duals on.They still got stuck.Back in the old days muddy fields were a bad problem for most combines.

Many falls we had to wait until the ground froze up and some years that was near or after Christmas.Around here lots of the crop was gone by then.In the 60's and 70's I got up early many a morning and shelled corn until the ground thawed out.
