OK,my 7000 lb car trailer is no longer adequate to haul heavy combines 400 miles or more.So here are the possibilties.I have $15-2,000 max to spend so anything new is out.

1=Bumper hitch 18-20 ft trailer with a 4 ft dove tail and ramps

2=Gooseneck 20-24 ft trailer with 4 ft dovetail and ramps-

3=Find an old cheap Jantz combine trailer if any are still around

4=Build one

I know gooseneck is the way to go but they are so tall when hauling 12-13' tall combines such as a 123 IH.You hate to have to take the grain bin off-etc.

Pictured above is a trailer like I want.It sold on ebay a couple of weeks ago for $1554 but was in Central Texas.It was 8' by 20' with a 4' dove tail and ramps.It had a diamond plate floor,3500 lb jack,4'5" tongue..It had 3-6000 lb axles (brakes on two) with 14.5 tires.It was nice and low to the ground.All it needed was a winch.

What do all you guys haul with?

Years ago my antique tractor hauling trailer was an 8x18 ft 3 axle bumper hitch that was low to the ground but its long gone.It would have been ideal for combines

I never owned one, just seen them that neighbors had. I could look and see if any are around yet and get some pictures. I am sure that some still use them. My Dad said that the combines got so big they had to go to tandem axles and brakes for the DOT. I'll see what I can do.

One of my regrets is that I sold my 20,000 lbs capacity Jantz combine trailer at my auction for $700. I have wanted to use it many times since. Anyhow I could nose around back home and see if some are still around. I bet there are some. Also what you might consider is an "A" frame trailer. A lot of guys used them because they were cheaper and they kept the combine closer to the ground. They were just a long piece of "I" beam welded to a truck axle with cradles for the big tires to sit in close to the axle. The combine was driven on and the back end was jacked up (later models had a pivot in them and used hydraulics from the truck) and hitched to the truck. This rasied up the back axle of the combine. The combine was pulled backwards. My thought on these are that they are cheap to build ( I don't think any were factory made) and it would be much easier to load a dead combine on one because it is chained to the trailer before it leaves the ground. If you wanted one built I believe the machine and welding shop in Mankato Kansas built several of them for custom harvesters and would know how.

I have (well my dad) a 24' Titan Gooseneck with a 4ft dovetail. It is kind of a pain loading combines on it as headers have a tendancy to get stuckwhere the dovetail and deck meet. Its has a GVRW around 12,750 but I know its hauled loads heavier than that. My neighbors dad has a Janz combine trailer that he hauls his pair of Versatile 835's around on. I like the idea of building one out of an old toolbar or an old chisel.
