Top 1/3 of page has some pictures and short movies of this years soybean harvesting. Went through corn too fast and didn't get any pics there

What model Deere is that? Never seen one of that era with that size grain tank. Always love seeing pics. Would have taken some from inside my NH TR86 but it was rush rush rush and still is.

1978 7700. Custom made grain bin, 365 bushel, 2.5bu/second unloading auger.

I know, I always mean to take more pics but get going and get to either having fun or get frustrated and forget.

pbutler,
I'd checked your website several times this fall to see if you added anything, you got a great website. I always love seeing your progress on your projects, very inspiring.

How'd your soybeans do this year?

Been busy at work-so took a long time to get site updated. Thanks for looking.

Beans did about 55. No record for our area but not bad.

The input costs for all the corn next year are putting a big time crimp on the budget-so other than cylinder bars and combine augers I don't think I am going to get to do any new fun projects until after next years crop is sold. :(

Hey pbutler, I believe I remember you having a little trouble with you hydrostat jerking or slipping when you first take off. Did you ever get that fixed, and what was the problem if you did?

I learned it is the high pressure release valve. It is a common issue with that model combine. Since it only does it in 4th gear when you first start general concensus from the experts around here is don't worry about it. Didn't cause me any problems this year.

One more question.. how did your "new" bean head do? Have any problems with it, or did it preform flausly?

No, it wasn't flawless. I had a real problem with slugging the feederhouse the 1st day-with beans building up on rt side and coming in in a big clump.

I then put on some grain grabbers-those helped a bit. But the only thing to really keep me going-especially in the short beans was to run the reel all the way down and back. It did better after the 1st day when the overspray paint got rubbed off the stainless-but still not great.

In the end it did ok-but I have some tweaking to do before it goes to the field again.

Next year I am going 100% corn so not worrying about it for now.

Paul

Nice pictures Paul.Thanks.Glad you had a good year.

The corn was good here this year but that was about it.The wheat, beans, fescue seed, and hay were all poor due to drought. Not too far away theyve only had 3" of rain in the past 15 weeks.Lots of ponds are dry.

Say, what model is that planter? Is it modified to no till, or is a factory no till planted?

That is an old 7000 planter.

Link at the bottom is to a page explaining what I did to put on all the no-till stuff.

Only change I would make is I did not like the spiked closing wheels in dry ground planting shallower beans. For that situation I am going back to plain old rubber wheels.

Yes, sold it to a neighbor with 60 acres. He just has some oats and wheat for his horses.

I was glad to see it get a good home-that was a good combine in good shape-just a little small for the free time I have.
