I was wondering how do y'all sharpen the sickle on the combines and how often do you sharpen them. Seems like a combine with a wide header would take a lot of sharpening and a lot of extra sickles. Thanks

We don't sharpen ours in reply to Willy P, 11-06-2006 06:36:29
On our 930 the sections are like $1.25 each. I don't know how you'd sharpen the serrated ones and do any good. When they get worn or broken we just replace them. It only takes a minute to replace one.

Angle grinder touch up goes pretty fast, but a person should be putting a new sickle on by that point, you lose speed or crop.....

Sickle sections on combines are serrated and as they wear they sharpen themselves.

I have underserrated sickles on my sickle mowers and they do seem to stay sharp as they wear but I still sharpen them some with the grinder. But I didn't know what ya'll did on those big combines. Thanks

When they get this wore we buy a new one and throw away the old.

But the sections are still sharp.
