I have found a Massey Harris model 60 that has been sitting for nearly 30 years. It is stil complete, but the header has been bent. Surprisingly the tires are still holding air. Insides are pretty clean and in good shape. Only problem is the header. How hard would it be to fix, or find a good used one? What would it run as in price? Also is there a corn head for these or were they strictly for beans and wheat? I can have the combine for free if I want it but I have to pull it out of the fencerow (no big deal), just wondered if it was worth it. I already picked up a planter and disc from the same spot a couple of days ago and both of them worked fine. Thanks for any help Adam Davis
P.S. The original owner of the combine as well as the other equipment was my grandpa. He sold the land though and the equipment went to the buyer. I had to call two or three people to get a hold of the equipment I wanted.

Speaking of MH "Clipper" pickers I just got back from the auction and one went for $250! How rare are these? It's the first one I have ever seen. I found a reprint of a orginal ad a while back. The clipper was fairly rough, it has probaly set outside for a good 10 years or so. The reason it went so high because it had a 2-row corn head from a NI picker mounted on it. The tires woundn't even hold air. It is probaly restoreable but would take a seriously enthusiastic restorer. A JD 45 with corn head, no cab also just a bit on the rough side but not too bad brought $90, good sounding engine. A MF 410 gas with both heads in pretty good condition brought $250.

Adam: Which is it? A Clipper or a 60? Two very different machines. Clipper was a straight through 5 or 6 foot cut, while the 60 could be had up to a 12 foot cut with (I think) a 26 inch body. Both very fine combines. It sounds good, grab it.

Tom, I may be erroneous, but I was told that if the serial number plate on the machine said Clipper 60, it was a Clipper with a 5-foot head, and if it had Clipper 72, it was a Clipper with a 6-foot head. (See Adam's previous post a few down)

As I said, I may not be correct.

The MH 60 is never seen in this area, but it does exist. I did a little research and found this model to have been made in the 50's. The old MH "expert" may not have told me correctly about the Clippers, but that's how I've seen them identified on the auction bills. I guess I misread Adams' original post, thinking the 60 was on the ID plate (which reminded me of what the MH guy told me), but I realize now it's on the side of the machine. Oh well, I'm only human.
