Has anyone ever tried to pick 30" rows with a wide row #324 Picker? I have 5 acres to pick and I can only find a wide row machine in my price range. Thanks for your help.

I have a 325 picker and my neighbor has a older wide row. I plant 30" and he plants 38". We both have picked each others - usually with no problems. This year, with the drought we had, my corn was dryer and he was having problems with stalks breaking off at ground level and then piling up on the front of the machine (instead of pulling thru the rollers). He didn't have that problem at another neighbor whose stalks were just a little greener. Just kind of depends on the field.

All you could do is pick one row at a time as it spreads the stalks out too far to pick effectively, especially if ears are falling off.Would'nt take long for only 5 acres. What part of country are you from?

When I bought my 300 picker many years ago, the inside chains were not on it. Fellow who ownded it said it worked better that way, getting 30 inch rows through the 38 inch snoots.

I don't think it worked real well tho, there was very little wear on the machine....
