Mounted picker mover

I was just wondering if anyone here might have seen used by a dealer a custom or home built mover to move a mounted picker (main gathering unit). I heard about one NI dealer in IL that had built one. Something low to the ground that would lift the picker and stabilize it or slide it on.

I am contemplating the acquisition of a 227 JD picker where the owner wants to get it out of the barn, however at this time i do not have a tractor of the right type to mount it on. I have seen hyd. roll back trucks used for hauling lots of bulky equipment, but that would sit higher up than I would prefer. I would like to have something to lift a picker, move it about 20 miles and then be able to back it in the barn (height is a concern) up in the corner, without denting up snouts or tearing it up.
I figure not every one of these old dealers that sold these had a roll back, so there must be another way. They are a large amount of weight, 2500 pounds I am going to guess. I would suppose one of those Donahue 8 foot wide planter trailers (with sliding wheel bases)might not be heavy enough, since the weight is concentrated, rather than spread out more like a 8 row planter.

Any ideas, plans, pictures or other places to look greatly appreciated. I may try to build something.

Thanks

I guess the only thing I can tell you is that the arms only stick out a foot or less behind the axle. The wheels have to be wide enough to clear the outside of the machine and the tongue must be long enough to clear your pulling vehicle when turning.

I have hauled a 227 JD on Donahue trailer and didnt have any problems. After i got it home i bought a picker moving cart jsut like TW from SD described at a sale. Sorry i dont have anyway of sending a pic, but it works very well. The weight limit shouldnt be a problem , ive hauled 4 BIG bales on mine. Well hope this helps

Several years ago our local JD dealer had a trailer for moving 227 pickers. I used it once to move a 237 picker. I had to make a slight modification to make it work. It was a two wheel trailer with arms that stuck out behind the axel to support where the lift mechanism attached and a cross member on the tongue with a clamp on each end to support the pivot brackets [tractor axel area]. It worked very well. Since then the dealer was bought out and the trailer disappeared.
