Sorry,

It's been 30 years since I last put on a straw chopper.

But, doesn't that partition baffle under the walkers have to be removed when using the chopper? Or can it just be repositioned to let the knives miss hitting it?

Help my poor old memory here? I just cannot remember. :>(

Thanks,

Allan

Yes it guides the walker debris into the chopper. Things must reall y be different there. First you mowed them down now you trying to combine them and now you putting on chopper. I take you don't do any baling of the straw and if that the case hows come you didin't have it on when you tried to combine the first time. Just wondered that all. different stokes for different folks as they say. If it layed that long in my area it be rotten by now.

its been 20 years for me on a F. i was thinking it had to be there to guide the straw into the chopper. Or i am thinking of something else.

Yep,

If I just would have taken a minute, stuck my head under there and looked, I would have seen it; plain as the nose on my face.

The partition and the chopper "lip" together.

So now darnit, I get to put in two chopper bearings also. Darned thing is a bit noisey. Oh well, play with old iron, fix old iron, I guess. :>)

There is a vertical partition from the walkers down to the straw chopper - has a lip in the partition that the chopper fits into.

Can't really help more, as I've never seen an F around here without a chopper - standard equipment in this part of the world. Perhaps oredered without a chopper you get different baffling in there?

Thanks Paul,

That's what I needed to know. Maybe the partition is different for chopper equipped vs non-chopper version?

I just knew there was something about that darned partition, tho. :>)

The partition is used only with the chopper. It mounts in slottedc holes to adjust so it gathers material coming off the walkers. However, if you do corn, you need to add the canvas curtain and rod, above the chopper. Otherwise the cobs get thrown into the back of the walkers and beat them to shreds.

Thanks Guys,

Got 'er handled. Now, I'm right in the middle of replacin' those two big bearings.

Darned chopper turned out to be the most expensive part of this whole combine. Bearings and idlers were $40 a pop and they want $45 for the belt, which they would have to order.

So, I'm gonna run the old belt and just hope it lasts for 40 acres. Darned alfalfa is growing up around the windrows, so I gotta get out there and get 'er done. :>)

Yes, must have the heavy corragated like partition in the F and F2s. This not only keeps the end of the chopper fixed to the combine but also stops heavy pieces of stalk and bean stems from shooting up into the walkers and causing a mess of problems. Make sure you have this in! Hope this helps.
