Just thought I'd let you know what our 3 Gleaners went for at auction today:

C2 - with two headers and an Air reel - $500
A2 - $350 A- $275

For those combine demolition haters - I dont think any of the buyers plan to use them in demolition derbys.

Thus endeth our family's 40 odd years of playing with Gleaners! So long and farewell!

Ed

It seems to be the sign of the times. Even here in wheat country, we rarely see a JD 95 or 105 anymore. Very few 4400, 6600 or 7700 still in use, though there are still quite a few of the 20 series as in 6620, 7720, 8820. The older Gleaners and other brands have all gone down that long road to extinction also.

David, if you think it"s bad in your part of Kansas, you should just TRY to find an "old" combine of any make or color in central to north central Oklahoma. Just 20 years ago, I could make the trip from Dallas to OKC and count at least 12-15 combines parked outside on farms along that stretch of I-35. 30 years ago, just double that.

Nowadays, I can go all the way past OKC to Ponca City, pushing even deeper into serious wheat country, and still maybe only see 1 or 2 on-farm combines during that trip. It"s really sad, too.

No wonder I"m 100 percent against demolition derbies and the indiscriminate junking of old combines just for scrap. Anything short of the most current models is virtually extirpated from this state!
