Painting Crop Dividers

I am fixing up an older JD 220 platform. There is some rust on the dividers. I would like to repaint them. On my old combine I sanded, primered (white primer), and painted it. After a couple days in the field the paint rubbed off and you could see the white primer all over the place-looked terrible.

Anyone ever successfully painted those and got it to "stick"? Any tricks?

sand the rust down and then just spray the green on. Don't thin the paint as much as you would think you should. It will take more green paint to get good coverage but you won't have the primer wear through.

The paint will wear off regardless from constant contact with the crop. Just paint them green at the end of the season with no primer. The same thing happens on corn snouts unless you replace them with poly ones.
