Hit the consignment sales. Always some show up there. Just be prepared to check them over and run them beforehand. About three weeks ago at the Coldwater Ohio (west central)Young Farmers auction, I saw several small combines sell worth the money. One Gleaner K, 10'head, local Deere dealer consigned it, low battery when they went to start it, looked good, no corn head, $550. Second Gleaner K, 13'head, no corn, run good, $1000. 3300 JD, 13' head, needed cleaned up, had been shedded, but had coon manure all over throat and needed dirt blown out and a sheet metal wash job would have made it look like a different combine. Combine, table, and 343 narrow 3 row head all for $525. I really didn't think it would sell that cheap, but I didn't bid but should have, but I am out of combine shed room. That was a deal. I have the corn heads bring way more than that. 4400 D, decent looking with 13' flex head, $2000. They also sold a 1460, don't know what it brought, looked best of all there. Now is the time to look for bargains like this out of season. Another sale coming up in March near Maria Stein (eastern Mercer Co.) will probably have much of the same. I intend to go look. What part of Ohio are you in? Maybe we can help each other out.
