In the mid 1960's a family moved up here from Texas and bought a 240 acre farm 3 miles east of us.They had an old KB-5 or 6 IH truck and used it to haul up a model 70 Oliver tractor and a nice old 123 IH SP combine that had been in the family since new.In the late 60's they bought a M-5 MM LP tractor which rarely got used.

He built a shed for them and from what I can remember the 123 IH was put in it and was never used again.I always thought it would be neat to own it someday but never did much about it.I wasnt collecting combines then.

The owner passed away about 10-12 years ago and his widow moved to town. She kept the machinery and rented out the farm ground to a good neighbor.

It dawned on me last year that the old 123 IH was gone along with the Oliver 70,M-5 MM,etc.I did some checking and no one seems to know what really happened to them.I'll bet the combine got junked. The widow lady that owned them is real old and doesnt remember much.

I will do my best to track down what happened to the old 123 IH.Moral of the story is if you know where a nice old combine is located at dont wait too long to try and buy it.There probably arent a handfull of 123 IH's left yet.

Hey 1206SWMO: I see you have accumulated quite the collection! I admire your taste for collecting old combines. I wish I had the space for that and a place to use one.

If you really want a 123, Im sure there are some here in Northeast ND. When I go out flying with my student pilots you can see combines in the treelines EVERYWHERE! Almost evey farm place has one, sometimes there are 4 or 5 just sitting on a hilltop. If you are serious about getting a 123, I can try to locate one for you. I think there is one and pieces of another along Hwy 32. I know of a 141 siting in a slough too. Lots of Massey Harris and old IH, some old round tank MM, a few JD. If you can stand the trip, you could take home semi loads of em. The sad thing is that I'm starting to see a few collected in piles for salvage, but often they are too far out in the country side to make salvage pay.

Good luck with your collection, I hope you will actually get to use those combines a little too, do you have a hobby farm or show grounds or something?

Hi ndaircapt, I'll bet you can see lots more old combines from the air than I can ever see from the road.Sounds like there are lots of old combines up your way.I hope that a few get saved from the junkers.

I'd love to have an old 123 IH as my Dads first SP was a 1940's model 123 that he bought in 1959..I probably dont have the time nor money to go to NE N Dakota so I'm trying to find combines a little closer to home.I cant believe that I let one 3 miles from home get away.

I'm a part time farmer with 230 acres tillable.I'm hoping to use a couple of the old combines to cut some wheat with in 2007.

Just got off the phone with a guy in western Kansas that knows where lots of old SP combines are at.Hes going to try and help me get a few of them. Its about 400 miles out there. Its a dry climate so they dont rust bad out there.
