I've heard of these combines. I saw an operator's manual for one on ebay. It sure would be nice to see a pic of one.

They look pretty much like a 611 Ford.If my scanner worked i'd put a picture of the 17-1 Ford sales literature on here.

Was the 17-1 just renamed the 611, or were there differences inbetween the two combines? Was the oliver 25 in production before the 17-1 was produced? How did it work-Did ford buy a hand full of oliver 25 combines and paint them red or did oliver paint them red were they were built at? What year did the 17-1 and 611 go into production and when were they discontinued? Sorry to ask so many questions, but I love to talk about ford combines. I have my own Ford 642 Combine. Thanks for the interesting discussion.

I'm assuming that the 17-1 Ford combine was just an early 25 Oliver combine.

Some differences I've noticed in looking over the 17-1 and 611 Ford sales lit is the following.

17-1 engine air intake screen doesnt stick above the grain bin like the 611 does.

Theres a cut out on the sheet metal (wraps around operators platform)under the steering column on the 17-1 where the 611 is solid.

The unloader spout is diiferent on the end.

The ladder to get to the engine is on different sides, left on 17-1 and right on 611.

A 12 ft head was offered on the 611-only 10 ft on 17-1.

The divider points are different on the 17-1 10 ft head.

The steps to the operators platform are open on the 17-1 and enclosed on the 611.

The hp rating was 62 on the 17-1 and 78 on the 611.

The Ford 611 was built in 1959-63 and I'm guessing that by the serial numbers maybe 1500 or less were built.I assume the 17-1 was built in 1958?

I'm guessing Oliver painted them red?

The form number on my 17-1 Ford sales lit is AD-8041 4598 and on my 611 lit its AD-8779 26345

O. K. You two, The Ford combine was built at Battle Creek same as the Oliver. The ford used a 223? 6 cylinder engine while the Oliver used a 226 continental. Power steering was standard on the Ford, optional on the model 25. I did not realize there was a 1963 production of the Ford as those would have ben built In Branfort Canada in the Cockshutt plant. We had one running around with an Oliver Corn Head. The Ford corn head was different. There were also small changes in the Oliver 25 each year as well. Questions?

That is interesting info. The 17-1 must of had a Ford 4-cylinder if the hp was 62. Could it've been the same engine as the Ford 8N? Thanks for the discussion.

It says in the 17-1 sales lit that the 6 cylinder Ford engine delivers 62 hp at 2000 rpms.Theres a picture of it and its OHV so it must be a 223.

In the 611 sales lit it says the 223 cube Ford 6 cyl makes 78 hp at 2000 rpms and is the most powerful used in any combine in this size class.

wow, There must of been an engine design change in the Ford 223 6-Cyl engine if it went up by 16 horsepower. That's neet info.
