Hauling home a small combine is really pretty easy. The 1967 Ford Ranger F-100 and 7x16 car trailer got the job done nicely. This picture was taken just after arriving home at noon today from SE KS. We were unloading the Gleaner in the snow.

We then headed north after dinner and hauled home a 35 MH combine from just south of Kansas City.Had to pick it up and slide it on the trailer as someting was frozen up.Still got home before dark.

Some people have told me that you cant haul combines on car trailers.

Russ, the 67 Ranger F-100 is a 352 with an automatic. It has a 3/4 ton rear end with heavy springs. It loves gas and gets 12 mpg empty pulling the trailer and only 7-8 loaded.I wish it was a 4 speed.Goes 3000 miles on an oil change without adding any oil.

The nice thing is that its paid for.(grin)This afternoon it pulled a 1650 Oliver tractor 50 miles home from Kansas.

You better hope DOT never finds ya hauling loads like that they will use up a couple ink pins writing tickets. A 6030 weights twice as much as that truck or trailer can haul safly.

jdp,we are going to drive the 6030 JD 250 miles home from central Kansas and the 67 Ranger will be escorting it,not hauling it.In 2004 it followed a G-1000 Vista MM 300 miles home from NC Kansas.

The biggest load I've ever had on my car trailer is a 6500 lb tractor and that was only for 8 miles.6000 lbs is plenty for a trailer with (2) 3500 lb axles.

Ya thats cool i see trailers that size over loaded and broken down along the road often. Hope that 6030 has a cab if your taking it home soon. Is that a 10' head on the combine, around here they get funny about loads over 8'6" wide load permits& signs. Illinois cost me 600.00 per year & Mo. 100.00 per year for wide load permits thats on top of a 3200.00 License plate what a bite. Run that truck around 20,000 miles a year but can't get by without it

Altogether too many rules. The most important rule is get it home safely. Chain it down properly, yes. Balance your load, Yes. Watch out for stupid drivers, Yes. The foregoing suggestions ASSUME that you know how to avoid detection by DOT. Otherwise, no warranty.

jdp,the T Gleaner has a 10 ft header.I take the lesser traveled hiways with over width loads and dont have much trouble in KS-
MO.

The 6030 JD has a cab and we are waiting until March-April to drive it home.

They sure don't build them like that any more. The two best trucks I ever had were a 66 GMC short bed V6 with a two speed power glide that was bulit proof and pull the paint off a barn. And a 68 F-100 V8 with three on the tree. Plain Jane long bed. We packed the 68 with a load of sand and lugged it some 60 miles. Dragging the bumper most of the way. Chip'd a tooth in the trans climbing a hill. Drove it like that for months before swapin it out.

Brother had a 70 (rust free) and 72 down in OK. He was going to build one out of the two. I ended up buying them from him. Some day I need to go get them.

Tom,if you will look right above the cab top of the 67 Ranger you will see the new machine shed addition. Its 75% built back after being totally destroyed in late Nov.It will be full when I get all my combines home.

Are you getting plenty of moisture down in cotton country? We had snow showers here all day but no accumulation.I've never seen it so dry.

The old 67 Ranger has lots more trips ahead of it.Will go get a 1650 Oliver tractor next Weds thats 45 miles away. Then theres two 91 IH combines that are 150 miles away,a corn head thats 110 miles away, etc. Then theres a 6030 JD thats 250 miles away.It never ends.

Had 6" of rain the past 10 days Blaine. Went from ll of the bayous and brakes nearly dry to almost full. Folks in OK are dry too, ponds nearly empty and having to move cattle. I know you and that F100 know all about getting that stuff home, but watchout for all idiots out there on the road. Take care amigo, and holler if I can help you. Tom
