Okay, I have given much thought to the charter of just an NPO. I've been busy doing a lot of in-depth reading and study of much of the paperwork. I am ready to give my prospectus to a business attorney for review. I don't know if I'm just jumping in over my head or not, but I do believe it is time now, before my name or any others actually sign a thing, to really see just how far this would go, even within the confines of this small group of us combine and harvester users, collectors and enthusiasts.

The proposed goals of the NACHT will be to purchase real estate and/or buildings for use as museums and old machines to add to existing shows or museums. Also, education, published materials and sales of merchandise to help raise funds will be available.

For now, I am just trying to get a feel to know whether or not such will even be acceptible or feasible. Thank you for your comments and input here.

Sign me up to, but only under the clause we add corn pickers too. I would love to see something like that, just to buy machines for scrap basically, have a place to store them, and a bunch of guys willing to work on whatever they can manage to get running. It would be a significant showplace for the 20th Century American Agriculture. Have real estate for planting crops to have harvest shows for each type of crop... I love the idea. I'd be a member in a heartbeat.

Nuts, When I was 10 to 12 my father did the harvest run from Texas to Canada. He still has everything that he used in the late 60s. The C Gleaner and 66 GMC truck. The header trailer with the pickup attachment. I have thought about loading the combine on the truck and pulling the header trailer along for parades. I can still remember riding with my Dad in the truck when we were moving and as we went through a town the people would stop and watch us like a parade. I have always loved combines and am glad to find others with the same interests. I would be interested in a combine club. Where do I sign up?

Sir, Add me to your list of possible associates. I am a little short on the cash/time part right now, but in a couple of years (hopefully) I'll be retired and might could assist with this project if it's not too far away and the "boss" doesn't absorb all of what little funds I have/will have. I'm in Korea right now, but as I've told many people over the last few years. "I just can't wait to go back to chasin' cows and fixin' combines. Are you talking about just self propelled or pull type also? I know where there are to A/C pull type combines. One is a 60 or 66 but I don't remember about the other one. The 60/66 could be restored/reworked to put in the field again. The canvas for it was removed and is in a barn or shed and should still be good (was used for only one maybe two seasons). The other was bought for parts in the early 80's and could be used for parts to fix others with. I plan on retiring and living in the Texas, Eastern New Mexico, Oklahoma or Lousianna areas. But if this association isn't too far away would be willing to travel.

later days mate,
Jim

I"d be interested in something of the sort you"re speaking of. Combines have allways fasinated me. Such a simple idea, carried out in a complex way. Never know how big a hit it"ll be until ya try it, just might be the next big thing.

P.S. just where about are you from nutsaboutcombines?

Nuts, its something that needs to be done but it will be an uphill battle as theres so little interest in old combines.

If I ever win Powerball I'd like to build a huge combine museum and buy the best machine of each make and model thats still left yet.I'm sure that I'll get struck by lightning first.(grin)

Dry as we are I doubt we see much lightning this year. Its drier here than anytime since 1953.

You have the same ambition I have--make sure at least one of each made--is protected and preserved. I think it is possible to find at least one of most models produced in the last 50-60 years, but go past that, the very history becomes obscure.

No, you don't have to win the powerball. In fact, most people who have an old, abandoned combine, just like that old Model S M-M, would likely GIVE it away, just to remove it. I think a lot of money can be raised through merchandising, as well as private donations. In time, perhaps the farm machinery manufacturers themselves will give their support, but this has to take off, first.

I'll have my money tied up in my tractors for a few more years yet, but would love to get into combines. If there was some way I could somehow help your idea get off the ground, I'd love to try it. I'd be quite happy just hunting up old combines for somebody who would restore them. I agree whole-heartedly that something has to be done to save the history woven into combines and harvesters. Lots of people know about tractors, but not as many know about the importance of combines to agricultural history.

If you can get something started, I'd try my best to help any way I can.
