I was just wondering if any 611 Ford SP combines are still left yet?
One new 611 Ford was sold in my area to a farmer about 8 miles away.It was the only one I've ever seen. They were built around 1959-63 and were similar to the Oliver 25.

For some crazy reason the owner painted a bat on the rear of the combine and it was surrounded by an orange circle.

I have original sales literature on the 611 Ford plus on the 17-1 Ford SP combine which was the forerunner of the 611.

The Ford Model 611 IS a renamed Ollie 25. Apparently Ford could not even sell all of them for Oliver, so Ollie marketed the balance under their own name, which was a lot stronger in combines. The Oliver 25 still has the embossed oval on the sides of their straw walker bodies, obviously made to recieve the Ford decal.

I used to have a piece of literature for the Ford 611. It was painted red, not Ford blue, which I found rather odd. I knew of a guy down in Texas who had an Oliver 25, but never got to see the machine. He was only a part-time or glorified hobby. His mistake was in thinking his Oliver was made by Ford, to which I never tried to sat any different.

Nuts,I think the one big difference between the Oliver 25 combine and the 611 Ford combine was the engine.

The Oliver 25 had a flat head 6 Continentel 226 and the Ford 611 had a OHV Ford 223 6 cyl engine just like the 6000 Ford gas tractor had.

I have original 25 Oliver sales lit but cant put my hands on it right now.

I'm going to see if I can find a 611 Ford. One was for sale on here a few years ago up in Canada.A search of the photo archives on here shows a picture of it.

I thought that the 6000 had the 240 inch Ford gas moter. Could be wrong, as it is not red (ha ha).QR

Red, My original 6000 Ford tractor sales literature shows it using the Ford 223 gas engine with 3.62 bore and 3.6 stroke. It had 64.5 pto hp and 56.25 drawbar hp.

The 6000 Ford diesel engine was 242 cubic inches. There were several 6000 Ford tractors in my area.

My parents bought a brand new 1959 Ford Custom 300 car and it had the 223 engine. The 240 engine came out sometime in the 1960's.

Here in Canada Ford Motor Company sold a Meteor car under the Mercury franchise. This was a car that was styled as the large Mercury and had the Mercury dash with the Ford interior finish. It was priced just over the Ford. My uncle bought a new 1964 Meteor in August of 1964. My Father ordered a 1965 Ford Custom 500 for fall 1964 delivery. My uncle splurged a little more and ordered power steering and an automatic. My Father (they farmed side by side),with a thicker Scottish mindset ordered none of those options!!!. Both were 6 cylinders. When my Father received his car, my uncle pulled up, popped both hoods, and immediatly remarked that `Somebody made the motor from a mirror`. The Meteor had the 223 4 bearing motor while the Ford had the 240 7 bearing motor. The 240 also had hydraulic lifters. Sparkplugs location, right versus left were reversed on the motors. My Father traded a Meteor with the 223 motor. He often had to adjust the noisey tappets. The 223 was lazy in a car of that size. My uncle traded it for a Montego in 1968 with a 302!! The 300 6 in the trucks is an overgrown 240. We ran several of those, and still have an old truck with the 300. The 300s were tougher than the 240. On the 1965 Ford, it was traded (for a Buick Wildcat, nearly in your style!!). (And dam/ the Scottish mindset!!!!). at about 65000 miles, and it was getting tired. On a similar note, the 223 in my uncles Meteor was traded at 57000 miles, and it was stsrting to smoke. Funny how these details remain fresh in my mind, but I forget to pick up milk or cheese at the corner store..... As they say over at Redpower, CRS is upon me (us). Kind of off topic, but..... . QR

Red, Those 300 Ford 6's were some of the toughest engines ever built.Several in this area went 200-300,000 miles before ever being touched.

My parents traded their 1959 Ford Custom off in late 1967 for a new 1967 Galaxie 500 2 door hardtop with the little 289 V-8 and automatic. That was one great little engine.

No one says we have to stay totally on topic.(grin)

My first car was a 1963 Ford Galaxie 500 4 door sedan, with a 352 2 barrel and Cruise-O-Matic. I was in college at the time and my roommate had a 1963 Pontiac with a 283 and Powerglide. Well now, I had done all the math, and I thought that I would set things straight!! Not so. Out on the official college dragstrip`I started well. However, as I was pulling well in second, and running the old 352 up near shift point, along comes this screaming banshee of a 283. As he nears my rear door, (and I am pushing my right goot through the floor even harder) he shifts the Powerglide to direct. That Poncho slingshots past me and he takes me by 2 lengths. Don Garlits would have been proud!!. I sure as he$$ was not!. Semester is soon finished, and plans are made for fall.... Yea, that summer I hunted high and low and finally picked up a 1965 Mustang, red, convertible, with a 289 ,4 barrel, and a 4 speed...The summer went by too quickly; warm evenings cruising the strip (town of 10000), lake parties , ( the Laurentian mountains start right at my town, with numerous lake within a 20 minute drive) Sunoco 280 gasoline, bunrt rubber and burning clutch, Dairy Queen drive in, and drive in movies in Ontario ( for some stupid reason drive in theaters were not permitted in Quebec until about 1073. Many border towns in Ontario and New York state made their livslyhood on Quebec customers!), and of course summer loves in the bright red (could have passed for 2150 red!!) Mustang convertible... Memories. Fall comes, and college resumes. Revenge time. Only now my roommate also has gotton wiser. He now has a 1966 Chevelle, with a 327. I avoided at all costs a rub with him, however, one unavoidable night it happened. Yes the Mustang went down to defeat, but only by a half car length, and I was gaining, but the line had come. Another proof that size does count-just ask any girl who has been around a bit... Winter was coming and the Mustang had proven to be drafty. There was a lad who wanted my red 'Stang. Done the road it went. In its place, I bought a 1967 Galaxy 500 2 door hardtop, with a dark green roof and a sand green body. It came well equipped, and sported a 289. It was a good looker, and proved to be a good car..... ....and had no bucket seats!!! Ya ain't goin' to make the same mistake twice- I am a college kid!!!!! !!!I never ran that car, as $$$ were getting scarce (wonder why?!!). However, my roommate's girl broke up with him to go with me. Some times victory is not always immediate. Hence my love for the large sedans, as proven by the fleet I have had over the years, including my present Crown. Memories. Just a bit off topic!... (Double grin as I fade off into the memories of the warm summer nights, the girls, the good times....the girls..... and .$0.34 a Canadian gallon gas..... ...)..... ....QR..... ..... PS: I think that I wrote the first draft of Grease in my dreams ..... ..... ..... ..

You"re really correct, but I would still rather talk about our combines any day, over cars and trucks!

Also look at their radiator screens. They were made differently on the two. The engine difference does not surprise me. After all, Ford MADE engines, but never a combine.

Nuts, I found my 25 Oliver sales lit and noticed the difference on the air intakes between the 25 Oliver and 611 Ford.

Also I noticed in my sales lit that the corn heads were some different.

That's really interesting about the cornheaders. I can see the air intakes being different between the 2 engines. Still, the combine itself, is the same.
