This morning at 6 am my son and I jumped in the car and headed 423 miles north to Nebraska to look at what sounded like a dandy 1952 model Super 27 Massey combine.

Upon arriving there and going out to a qounset building we looked at what has to be one of the finer Super 27 Masseys in existence. Its a 1952 model and the current owners Dad bought it used in 1954.I'm guessing its been in the shed every night of its life.

I believe that its been used every year since 1952 up until 2002 when it was driven in the shed after oat harvest. The original paint and decals are so good that I wont touch them,I believe 2-3 hours work would put it in the field.

The owner was trying to start it when we got there but it had no fire,He cranked it over for us and promised that he would have it running soon.He lifted the header up and down for us.

When we were ready to leave he went to the house and got the original owners manual and parts book for Super 27 #100393.

It has a scour kleen on it so is pretty tall.

Now I've got to figure out how to get it safely home.

We just got a new computer so it will be a couple of days before I get pictures on here.It was in the corner of a qounset with lots of stuff around it so the pictures arent great,

It was a fun drive home knowing I'd gotten this gem bought.

Hey, I'm soooo happy to hear that you have finally made it home safely with the Massey-Harris Model 27. Yes, there are very, very few old 27's left in the world, period. If we could save even those few that remain, it would be worth it, but sadly, so many who still have them, don't care as to what happens to them. Of all of the Model 27's I heard about as a teenager, not a one of them are still with us.

It really makes me especially sad when we can have all these laws that even go to far extremes to protect birds, fish, rodents and even bugs--and yet NOTHING has ever been legislated to help protect and preserve our vanishing icons of American agricultural history! We need to protect the things that were so essenial for our own survival, rather than a few wild animals that have no effect on our food supply.

I guess I'm kinda spoiled. The farmer that is next door to the place I have my 101 has a 27 and uses it for wheat every year! Everyone will be happy to know he got it from a dealer who offered it to him for $200 and if he didn't buy it it was going to the torch. GREAT FIND!

Congratulations 1206SWMO,

It has been neat to hear about some of your travels on the Massey combine search along with your parts and plow travels. Very rarely here in this part of IN do we see old MH/MF combines unless they are 300/410 combines.I guess out your way there were more delers than around here.
Can't wait to see the pictures. You mentioned awhile back about the JD 40. Got one of those in the shed, they are a unique little booger.
I hope to go see a NI 702 with a GMC 471 diesel within the next few days.
I would like to see a 525 OL/2890 MM in person as I have been told they are about the same basic combine. A 2890 would look good next to my 302 and M5 Mo's.Just don't know of any around here, although I know some had to have been sold here.
