What do you combine owners use to clean up a rusty or painted grain platform that feeds to the center in bunches? Chemicals? Powered sanders & grinders? Maybe a lubricant to assist in shinning things up? Thanks in advance!

I use graphite powder, like what u put in planter boxes to lub and shine the plates. I jsut pour powder all over the header floor then whent he crop slides over the floor it will rub the powder and take off the rust. ALso you could use a corncob and dip in in kerosene and rub it on the rust, which will make it smooth. Or theirs somekinda acid that will take the rust off , but not damage the metal i jsut cant think of the name.

To just assist in the feeding, the single best thing you can do is to square the auger flighting like a new one. Take a grinder and grind the edge of the flighting back square just like it was when it was new. If you notice on a worn auger the tip of the auger flighting against the crop will be rounded. You want to grind it down past the round part. I hope this makes sense, and some will ridicule me for it, but I promise that it can make a machine feed like a new one. Also, be sure that your auger is adjusted to the correct clearance specifications. BH

You"re right BH, we do that on all our machines. Also, make sure the stripper bar behind the auger conveyor is in good shape. So often a conveyor gets bent or broken and damages the stripper bar. The conveyor gets replaced or fixed and the stripper bar that has been damaged receives no attention...
