When I bought my 1981 F2 last fall I made a very disappointing discovery. Mice in the cab. I should have known better, but now I have all of the crap cleaned out, and the mice killed, but the metal still needs to be cleaned and the cab smells horrible. What would you guys recommend to clean the metal and get rid of the stink? I've heard of bleach and water mixed together, am I on the right track? Thanks.

Hey, I haven't tried this yet, but a friend insists that they just tear open a packet of Ex-Lax and lay it in the cab and it keeps mice away. They don't eat it, they just won't enter an area with it present.
Probably lucky for the mice that they don't eat it. Ha

I'm not exactly sure just why it works, but I have had good success with tomato juice when it comes to eliminating animal smell. Perhaps it has something to do with the acid content. Give it some time to sit but don't let it dry completely and scrub it off vigorously.

Had the same problem with my IH1480. I had to wash it with bleach and water to kill the smell before putting in an entire new interior, except for the seat which I could not easily replace. Yes, use bleach and water it will also kill any viruses (Legionnare's disease) that may be in the urine and feces.

F2 straw walker stops up with wheat beards? in reply to James2, 06-06-2005 12:57:41
I have a F2 corn and soybean special and wheat beards pack in the walker really fast and tight. Does anyone have a solution to this?

I had a IH 915 which tended to do the same thing. You could remove wires from the walkers which helped the situation, but this may not be an option for you. I finally "fixed" my straw walker plugging problem by buying a rotary! Ask the question on Marvin Gordon's Harvesting Site under the heading "Case-IH Combine Talk Show". Gleaner's have there own subsection in this forum. Post the question there. Without a doubt, someone will know how to solve your problem.

I've tried mothballs, red pepper, and bounce dryer sheets, and none have worked. The only thing I found to work is to clean all the seed and stalks out of the combine and put rat poison in a few spots.

Open the window and door. Each fall, take off some of the covers in the headliner- where the displays are located. Put in mothballs, d-Con, dryer sheets- like mentioned. Clean the machine as best as possible. Mice like feed and bedding- remove their source.
