Let me start by saying please forgive my ignorance. I am thinking about putting in some feild corn to sell to the deer hunters in the area. I have looked at a few pull type corn picker/huskers. Is there anything out there that would shell too. Does an older self propelled combine shell the corn?
Thanks for the input

Yes - but first you will run into a problem.

In most locations where corn grows, it is kinda damp. Often times you need to pick the corn when it is still 28-26% moisture. However corn goes moldy if you try to store it for any amount of time as kernals above 15% moisture.

So, how will you dry it?

On the ear, you can easily store the corn at 24% or even higher. You put it in a crib where the air can blow through it and it will slowly dry down to 15% over time.

You might want to keep it ear corn, the deer don't mind.

Or, pick it on the ear, then use a sheller to shell it into kernal corn later.

Most older self propelled combines had a 2 row corn head option, but let me tell you those machines go through money to keep running....

You can get several models of corn pickers with a sheller option instead of a husker bed, so you could use a pull type picker to get shelled corn.

I believe a couple of the pull type combines had a corn head, but that is a rare find.
