18.5 BS I/C II 42D707. Had the lean surge last year, put in fuel pump and larger jet, ran great. Started this spring, developed severe flooding, with air cleaner off it would spray gas on the driver! Pretty obvious needle and float issue.

Opened it up, cleaned, then turned the top upside down to check float movement. Moves fine, but the top of the plastic float hits the gasket! Removed the gasket, the top of the float hits the carb top!!! Pretty obvious something is wrong.

Looked online, carb kit is available ($25!!). One suppler stated "needle is for brass flat carbs, for plastic float, order diffent needle, p/n....

So do the plastic floats take different lenght needles? I cant really tell if there is a Viton seat, but I know the needle has Viton on it.

Help!! Lawn"s going to be nasty after 3 more days rain!

Yep, wrong one in eBay kt in reply to BS = BS, 05-15-2008 19:01:45
Check with my local parts man, the Briggs kit comes with a new needle about 1/8" longer than the new one that came with the eBay kit I put in. The brass float Biggs kit has a shorter needle.

If you took the carb apart, and possibly blew high pressure air thru the fuel inlet, the Viton seat may have popped out! It belongs inside the cast-in-tube where the needle valve pointed end goes. Those seats have the nasty habit of popping out and rolling under something that can't readily be moved, where it will hide forever! Ask me how i know! A carb rebuild kit will usually have one in it.

Nope, can see the seat still in the carb. I"m game for replacing it with a kit but if I have to buy a different needle then I need to get it all at once.
