Need a regulator for a JD 140

Is there a good place to find a rectifier/regulator for a JD 140? Seems there were two types offered and I guess either would work if I had the pigtail from the tractor.

Thinking that most tractors of this vintage using a Kohler K321 might have the right part.

Used to have a mower salvage place near me but I think they shut down...

Thanks for any ideas!

Ken

It's looking like I might have been in a rush!! I followed the chart in the service manual and it looks as though the ign switch IS the problem. I hooked a meter to the pos batt cable and all is good except the switch term that goes to the reg.

Anyone know the part number of the switch?

Thanks,
Ken

Thanks guys!

I have AC voltage of about 32 volts coming from the engine but the DC terminal on the reg is giving me nothing at all measured directly on the terminal, so it looks like it's the reg that's bad.

Sorry but I don't have the serial number and keep trying to remember to look at it! Tractor just got removed from the garage to make way for another repair job. The regulator on it is not the one with wires coming out of it so there is a two terminal plug that plugs into it from the ac windings, and a single terminal that carries the DC+. No fuse on it either like the one style has.

Your rectifier/regulator is like this one in the diagram. Hal
PS: Did you clean the center terminal until shiny?

I had a JD 140 and the amp meter didn't show any charge even though I had ac voltage from the stator. I found the terminals on the regulator needed to be cleaned. Then it charged. Hal

It's just as likely the ignition switch is shot, or the terminals are dirty. The charging current passes through there on it's way to the battery,

I got an aftermarket VR for my K301 for about half the price Kohler wanted. works great and has a bigger heat sink. I will see if I can find the link.

Still about $40 as I recall.

Why don't you just get one from the Deere dealer?

Up through serial number 38,000:
Part #AM123296 (comes with connector)

Serial number 38,001 and above:
Part # AM37200

Do you KNOW what your tractor serial # is???
