A GL-1 Gear lub. DO NOT use a GL-5 as the posi-track additive in the GL-5 will damage the bronze worm over time. Kent

Please tell me more about the Posi-Trac additive hurting the bronze. It seems to me any extreme pressure type lube would be better that regular. I have several old pieces with worm drives, and I'm sure I've used EP in them. What is the story? Thank you.

Both the GL-4 and 5 are EP, for Extreme Pressure BUT the GL-5 has an additive for rear end that have a Posi-Track or Limited-Slip carrier. This additive will attack yellow metal like the gear, I said worm mistakenly in the previous post, of a worm and gear drive box. Use only a GL-4 or lower if yellow metal is is to be lubed.

90W gear lube is the recomended. If the leak is bad, then put a little 140w in it or 1/2 90w and 1/2 gun grease.

80W or heavier on a worm drive.

I remember the old Montgomery Wards one we had blew the seal and leaked the oil out in a day or two. We filled the worm drive with grease and ran it that way for 10 more years until the engine finally died. Thats an idea if the oil leak is too bad.
