129 hydro cub cadet. Rebuild or replace starter/generator. New is going to be 90. I have no idea what rebuilding one would cost or if I could do it correctly. What do ya think.

you can have one rebuilt by a reputable shop for less than that. Normally the only thing they need is new brushes, have the mica cut between the lands on the commutator and clean the commutator. The other two main parts, the stator and rotor, they either work or they don't. They are not wear parts like the brushes. then a little grease on the two bearings and I mean a little and you are good to go. the only other thing to look for is broken wires. They are really a very simple thing to work on.

The new ones you see for less than the $100.00, are most likely foreign made (ie: China).

The original S/G was made by Delco-Remy here in the good ole USA. Since the original S/G lasted 30 years, you will have to ask yourself, will the Chinese model go the same distance. third party image

I bought one of those Made in India for $96. It lasted for 2-years. Go with the original make.

My 2-cts.
