Hi,

We just purchased used John Deere Hydro 175 riding lawn mower - it was abandoned, so there is no real history to the mower. It doesn"t start and we are trying our hardest to figure this out. Any suggestions or pointers would be greatly appreciated. We are just looking to get this thing running to cut some of the wild back yard and I really need help - the push mower is impossible with this stuff.

Does engine crank?or just wont start. I will address wont start, if you have a no crank problem please post again. To evaluate quickly cause of no start problem you must have three things. You will need to check for Spark,Fuel and Compression. In that the Kawasaki motor is very reliable I would begin with fuel.In an area outdoors well away from your home and in a safe location remove air filter and place a half dozen or so drops of gas directly into intake. You can use a eyedropper to accomplish this.If engine starts, remove fuel inlet hose to carb and place in a deep container, have a friend crank engine,if you see a fair amount of fuel flowing pump is OK.If low flow it maybe pump, fuel supply hose, shutoff valve just below seat or pickup tube in tank.Back to if you had fuel at earlier test, remove and clean carb.If fuel system passes all test remove spark pplug adn connect to spark plug lead out of cylinder and have a firend crank engine while you watch in a dark spot, blue spark,OK. If not replace igniter on right side of engine with white wires running to it,square silver box.to test compression use a guage should be between 75 to 120. Let me know if I can be of any further help.

You need to check for a few things to see why it won't start. Pull off the plug wire and crank the
engine to see if there's fire from the plug wire.
If there's good fire install a new sparkplug and see if it will start. If there's a no start check for gas to the carburetor. Hal
