I had my John Deere 116 starter rebuilt and now it turns over but it is not getting fuel. It will run as long as I give it some starting fluid. Does this model have an electric or vaccum pump and where is it? I have an auxilary fuel pump could I install it and maybe solve the problem.

Thanks,

Randy

The 116 has 2 fuel pumps! One built into the side of the carb and an electric one in the steering wheel support housing on the left side of it.The elctric one is a low volume lift pump to get the fuel moving up to the vacuum pump on the carb. When the electric one fails excessive cranking is needed to supply fuel to the carb.

I am going off a vague memory of many fuel delivery problems plaguing 116s. Deere offers a pulse pump kit which is relativley simple to install(AM100975 pulse pump kit)or an electric pump is available as well (AM38788). There is a service bulletin for fuel related problems and it leaned towards pulse pump kit. The kit is basically a pump, some hose, and brackets to mount. The existing pumps are quite unpredictable and do not deliver fuel at a steady rate "usually". If looking for some cost savings you could use a Napa PN 7-08024 pump,5/16" fuel line, clamps and make your own bracket.Napa also has a repair kit for existing pump PN 7-02109 or Briggs 393397 or just a cheap 12vdc electric pump. Good luck to you.
