Fuel pump is on front of carb - it is a pulse (diaphram) type that operates off of engines vacuum. Usually if engine will run though it's dirt / varnish in carb and not the pump. you may get away with cleaning it but if not most carb kits for these include parts for fuel pump.

You have found a good site right here, but if you want any help, you need to post the model, type, code off you engine, then you might get what you are looking for, but without that, it is a shot in the dark to give you an answer.

Before tearing carb apart or pump(if eng has)check that fuel line between tank & carb(also outlet in tank)is not plugged or restricted, replace gas filter, same may be restricted, drop carb bowl & check for a load of dirt/water in same, also check anti-backfire sol on carb(if carb has)that same works electically & that plunger retracts all the way & is not stuck or sticking. If above fails to get eng running try going to your local mower dealer with mod & type# and see if he has a repair manual covering your eng,as you didn't mention mod & type#,there are 5 possible manuals to cover your eng depending on style,1 cyl L head,2 cyl L head,1 cyl ohv, twin cyl vanguard ohv, twin cyl intek ohv,if your dealer doesn't have, try going to briggs website in shopping section & order one online, briggs used 2-3 different carb mfg on their engines, you have to know which carb you have.
