I'm afraid pullers have the kept the price high on these tractors. They make the absolute most attractive pullers, primarily because of the addition of the side panels, the slope of the hood, the wide frame, and minimal cutting to add much larger engines. If you think you are in competition with pullers to buy this tractor you'll have to pay close to the asking price. As the previous post implies, if you are going to keep your tractor to use I don't think you'll be sorry. There's nothing on the market in the way of a new mower that can compete with a restored CC.

Gee we can open up a small hornets' nest with this one. You have given us virtually no engine information i.e. is it a Series 1, series II, or what? Series I engines are the throwaway engines. Why is the engine apart in the first place? We can only assume that it needs an overhaul. Condition of the overall tractor and accessories is another contributing factor. My honest opinion the $550.00 is too much if it is just the tractor. Even with deck again too much. If the tractor is one owner, with a great deck, (no holes or welds, etc.) the tractor is pristine otherwise... again complete sheet metal, good tires, paint (you know the routine)... and not the Series I engine ... AND you really want it then go for it. Personally without more info than what you have provided I would shy away from it. Yes, stronics is correct about for under a thousand you could in theory have a great little tractor. It is up to you... it is your money. Try and talk them down to say $350-375.

Archie,
If you want to fix it to use and the rest is in good condition, you could end up with less than $1000 in it. What can you buy that comes close for that?
David
