I"m having a problem with my 15 year old motor, a Briggs & Stratton 16 horse Twin II. It runs really hot after 10 minutes or so, and loses power. I changed the plugs and oil, didn"t smell gassy. Is there something that would cause oil to not get to the cyliders? On a diff forum someone said they think it has an oil pump bu wasn"t sure. I pulled off the tin covers, there"s no grass or anything blocking the air.

Are you sure the engine is getting enough gas. Running lean will cause an air cooled engine to overheat and from late timing. Hal

I'm not sure how your engine is set up, but is there a possibility of a partially-sheared flywheel key causing late ignition timing, and subsequent overheating?

Also, some engines had trouble with exhaust valve seats coming loose when hot, and moving up and down with the valve, keeping the port blocked, causing weird running symptoms.

I didn"t see the exhaust get red. It starts up great, with choke off it fires right up and runs great. After 10 minutes or so it started to bog down, when I pop the hood you can barely touch the fan screen. I guess I"ll try adjusting the carb, but as good as it runs it doesn"t seem like it would be that far off.
