Thinking of maybe buying a late 80s early 90s John Deere 420 garden tractor. No attachments, has 1250 hrs. is in good condition and has had a new hydro pump put in a couple of years ago. I can buy this for 2500.00, its no show piece but in average condition for its age. Thanks for your comments

That is about right price wise if it includes a mower deck and runs good. The 420 is the brother of the end all-be all model 430 diesel. Be aware that the onan likes to overheat if not kept clean and the hardened valve seats will come loose and usualy up around 1200hrs they like to blow up, rods fatigue and let go without any warning and ruin the block normaly. Depending on what you want to do with the tractor a 330 or 332 with the fuel efficient yanmar diesel might be a better one to try to find. Or if you have the money get the 430, it will be all you will ever need in a garden tractor. You can email me off site if you have further questions at johndeere330@verizon.net or go over to weekendfreedommachines.org its a JD L&G website with a forum and a for sale and wanted posting area, and its all free! Cheers Mike
