Hi guys

I today bought, at an auction a nice, 16HP countax ride on mower. i think it is about 4 or 5 year old (guess!)

running lovely and a good deal.

but, when i went to back it onto the lorry, it didnt want to go into reverse. the shifter went back, but it just didnt move. you could feel it vibrating a bit.

eventually it went in, then jumped back out again half way up the lorry ramp.

its still on the lorry as its pissing it down outside - but i shall have a look tomorrow. Any ideas on what to look for? is there an easy adjustement on these machines?

it has a 5 speed (and reverse?!) manual box on it.

Cheers guys

Countax is generally unknown here in the USA. If there are shift linkages outside the transmission, perhaps some adjustment would help. If the gear shift goes directly into the transmission, then something must be worn or broke. Hopefully you can find a retailer who can provide service parts.

Yes, there is linkae outside the transmission.

ive looked at it briefly today when i drove it into the workshop where it can stay till i get time to look at it, and the whole gear shifter is a bit sloppy. hopefully a bit of adjustement on the linkage will sort it out.

It didnt like neutral much either, wanted to stay in first, like the whole thing needs moving back a tad, if you get what i mean.

(it starts R, then N then goes 1,2,3,4,5 in line)

if i can move it back a tad hopefully it can find the reverse too.

Thanks anyway!

Ben

Those symptoms sound exactly like a Snapper rider with a worn-out drive disc. Don't know if a Countax is built the same way, but look under the engine and see if there's a flat aluminum disk attached to the crankshaft end. If there is, there'll be a narrow rubber wheel running on it at a right angle. On a Snapper that rubber wheel gets worn out and has to be replaced. Jim.
