What would cause a push rod to come off repeatedly? This is on a Brigss 25 hp Intek OHV Twin.

Thanks

Debbie

bankash - If you put the pushrod back on WITHOUT adjusting the lifter (just push the valve in) what is your valve clearance?

Most of the ones I've seen were from running either bad gas or High Octane gas. Nothing wrong with high octane, it just doesn't add any power and it typically has more additives, which tend to gum up the valve stems.

Everyone we have had in the shop doing this was from lack of maintance, valves were all gummed up and sticking

That seems to be a common thing on these Briggs twin OHV. I'll bet I've had ten this summer with the same thing and ones that haven't fallen off yet have had a much as .070" inch clearance. Some have had frozen valves and broken the push rods. It seems that they get way too hot. I put in synthetic oil to help.

But when we took the valves out I cleaned them really good. Is there something else I could check on them?

Thanks
Debbie

GOT IT..... ..... ...

Don't laugh but we have discovered that we were on at TDC. No longer a problem.

Thanks to all.
