have a 18hp opposed cylinder b&s engine. it is getting plenty of fuel through pump to carb, but is not getting any to plugs. can remove plug and squirt with fuel, and will start right off. just by cranking, it will run batt down, and plugs will stay dry. carb is getting plenty of fuel to it, but none to plugs. any ideas anyone? engine runs real strong, when it does start, and doesnt use any oil. once it does start, blows a lot of black flooding smoke, then clears up.

check breather hole in gas cap! If plugged by little spider web, or by mud wasp, the fuel won't flow to the carb, thence a no start condition! Rustyj

Main jet in carb may be plugged.

as far as i know, this carb has one main jet into carb on right side behind plug in side of carb, then an air mixture screw on front of carb. had carb rebuilt, and boiled out, and these are the only jets i seen. had carb completely disassembled and rebuilt, and this is all i found. plenty of compression (105 to 110 lbs per cylinder. no oil usage at all, no smoke, but will run batt down trying to start. plugs are getting sharp blue fire crack, but plugs remain dry. squirt in a little gas, and she"s ready to mow 2 acre lawn with no probs. can shut off and will start right up, but after setting 10 mins, have to pull plugs to start again. i"m stumped on this one! any ideas?

What I like to do in this case is to use a spray case of carb cleaner with the straw in the push button and put the straw ditectly into the main jet. If you do this you can tell if the passage to the booster in the venturi is open. You should be able to do this with out removing the carb. Remove the plug or the adjuster from over the main jet and with the air filter off spray the carb cleaner and see if it comes out in the venturi area. I have seen carbs that were "boiled out" that still had plugged passages. I have found that IF you understand where all the passages go you can use the spray carb cleaner to see if you can get fuel to flow through said passages.
