I took my old orange sears to the shop when it started running intermittantly and Jody my mechanic said that the magneto was an old type that used no breakers and he couldn't fix it. Parts unobtainable. I would like to know what others might have to say about intermittant spark and or magneto replacement for my old (1972?) Sears Suburban 12. Can parts be had? or is it a lawn ornament now? Bella

If the alternator stator is still good, you can modify a automotive electronic ignition pick-up to mount near the flywheel to generate a pulse and use that to trigger a GM 4 pin HEI chip and run the engine on a battery electronic ignition.

He is correct, the parts for that engine are no longer available. I have one in my shop right now that I am swapping engines just to get the customer going. More than likely the part number you need is 610759. been obsolete for at least 5 years.
