I have a Case with the ever so popular overheating, oil sucking Onan engine. Can someone tell what engine would be a better replacement without a lot of modification. Kohler? B/S? Help

I'm in the middle of replacing my Kohler single cylinder with a 16hp Briggs Vanguard in my Case 222. Fabbed a pump mounting bracket yesterday and will mount engine in frame today. At same time I'm installing an electric PTO clutch instead of the manual EZ unit.

Reason I went with Briggs was that that is what Ingersoll is using.

Kohler and B&S are both darn good engines. Iether one should do the trick, just make sure when replacing the motor that you measure the shaft length diameter and keyway for fit to the old pully!
Later !!

The only B&S I would touch these days is from the Vanguard series. That Onan engine is stuffed in there pretty tight. The Onan engines they put in Case/Ingersoll tractors had a special crankshaft that was much shorter than others. I have yet to put a motor back in my 448 but it won't be an Onan and I probably will have to do some fabrication and metal trimming by the time its done.
