A lady offered me a JD140 with mower ,free for the taking. She says it runs fine but the steering is broke. I breifly looked at it and the steering wheel just spins. It seems like the steering shaft might be broken.Anyone have and thoughts on what it could be? I plan to go over today and pick it up.Just wondering what it might be and what it is worth if I fix it up.

The 140 is very desirable for collectors or as a heavy duty garden tractor. It sports a 12 or 14hp kohler with hydrostatic transmission and live hydraulics. One in good running condition with mower deck can bring $800-$1200. I would not deley on picking it up!

If you can explain to me what " live hydraulics" means and how does that contribute to the value of this particular tractor?

Well I took your advise and got right over there and picked up the 140. It is still on the trailer as at this time I don't plan to start on it yet.It is an H1 with a mower deck, turf tires and a set of wheel weights were in the barn so I got them too. I guess it will be a challenge but sounds like it will be worth the effort when I am done.
