does anyone know how to gap the coil on an 8hp tec? this is an old fogger with the coil under the flywheel. already set one, and got it too close, and it chewed up the magnets on the flywheel. dont want to do this trick again.

The official tool for setting the gap is a cut-away flywheel. Easy gap is to use a thickness of a note card or "60 lb" card stock.

Failing that, trial and error fitup until you get spark.

Next time the magneto coil is a problem, they do come off of the core very easily without disturbing the position/gap.
