my new dinosaur is an old sears with 8 hp tec on it and 4 speed chain drive. was not getting fire, so i pulled flywheel and cleaned and gapped points. noticed that there was no wire for a charging system. no alternator or nothing just the mag and points. dont look like there ever was one.switch and wiring was shot, so am trying to rewire. B post on switch to large term on solenoid, I post to small post on solenoid to energize, hooked up batt, now which wire goes to kill block on engine? M post should go to mag, but no wires. how does this thing charge. no lights yet to worry about. anyway, it will start and try to run while key is in start pos., but when key is in run pos, engine dies.hooked up M post to kill block, and engine backfired without key being on. now no fire. did i blow points and condensor, or maybe mag. am new to tec engines. these sure arent like the good old B&S engines.
